I went to Australia under an overseas subsidised program offered by the Australian government. I was also attracted to the beautiful landscape of Australia.

My experience in Australia was extremely rewarding and it really helped me in my career development. Apart from improving my English skills, the most rewarding experience was that I learnt how to balance work and life. Like many Asian students, I was brought up in a typical Asian culture and I was taught to study hard and work hard. However I was never taught how to “play”  and “enjoy” hard and I discovered that it is very important for any successful individual to master the art of the work life balance.
When I was studying and subsequently working In Australia, I witnessed how Australians have managed to develop their nation with sustainable economic growth and yet not have to sacrifice their personal life.
I also witnessed how important it is for a leader to help their team members achieve that balance in order to develop creativity and sustainable performance.
Many colleagues and friends have commented that I am a man with much “sunshine” and I reply that I brought this sunshine from Australia.

I am very fortunate to now work in my current company that values the balance of work / life too.

Judges comments:

"You are looking at a succession of serious roles combined with his involvement with CPA Australia,” said Mr Quentin Stevenson-Perks of Lawrence’s win.
