The Australian pavilion has welcomed its 5 millionth visitor, local Shanghai resident, Ms Shen Ping.

Ms Shen was visiting China World Expo with her family and has won a trip to Queensland. She was visiting the Shanghai World Expo 2010 for the first time and the Australian pavilion was the family’s first stop. Ms Shen said she had seen the Australian pavilion on television and had chosen to visit it because it “looked so beautiful.”

The A$86 million pavilion is Australia’s largest commitment to a world expo and continues to be rated in the top five of over 190 pavilions by the Chinese media, according to a government statement.

The Shanghai World Expo 2010 opened its doors on May 1 and runs until the end of October.
An estimated 70 million visitors are expected to pass through the gates of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo during its six months of operation. ■
