China’s auto output for 2009 is expected to exceed a record 13 million units according to figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers released in December – cementing the country’s status as the world’s biggest automotive market. China’s auto sales for the first 11 months of 2009 hit a record 12 million as sales for November reached more than 1.35 million vehicles. Auto sales from China’s largest automaker, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, recorded sales of 2.4 million vehicles in the first 11 months of the year – an increase of 54 percent year-on-year. China's total car sales surpassed those of the United States for the first time in January 2009 aided by Chinese government efforts to stimulate domestic consumption. In 2008, China recorded automotive vehicle sales of 9.4 million. |
