Chinatown's Shanghai debut
Wednesday, 30 September 2009
In September, Shanghai celebrated the soft opening of Australian-backed entertainment venture – Gosney & Kallman's CHINATOWN – described by its owners as an entertainment “emporium.” Set in a 1930’s Buddhist temple in the city’s Hongkou District, and three blocks from the Bund waterfront, the venue boasts New York-inspired live stage shows by extravagantly costumed showgirls performing a combination of Cabaret, Moulin Rouge, Neo-Vaudeville, Broadway and Classic Vegas every Wednesday through Saturday. CHINATOWN also incorporates local and international musicians and specialty acts including “The Twins” from Shanghai.
The three-storey club seats around 200 people in tiered banquettes, balcony level exclusive boxes and a third-level invitation-only Observatory Bar, serving boutique Champagne labels and cocktails inspired by Bar Manager, Australian George Nemec. The venture is co-owned by international nightclub designer Norman Gosney and Australians Anna Patterson and Tim Clark.
