| M fever reaches Beijing |
| Wednesday, 16 September 2009 |
After much anticipation, the M Restaurant Group’s new Beijing venture – Capital M – has finally opened for business. Capital M is located at the northern tip of Beijing’s restored Qianmen pedestrian street and boasts views across the Qianmen Gate and the Forbidden City.
Capital M is the third restaurant to be launched by the M Restaurant Group’s Australian founder, Michelle Garnaut. Garnaut opened her first venture – M on the Fringe - in Hong Kong 20 years ago and her renowned Shanghai restaurant – M on the Bund – recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. Shanghai is also home to Garnaut’s Glamour Bar which overlooks Shanghai’s spectacular Bund skyline. After seven years in the making, Garnaut said she was feeling “jubilant” over the venue's opening week. Like its predecessors in Shanghai and Hong Kong, Capital M boasts Garnaut’s unique sense of glamour and style with the restaurant’s interior designed by Debra Little and Roger Hackworth. The restaurant features a formal dining room, a central bar and a lounge area – The Oval Room – as well as spacious garden terraces. M’s group chef, Hamish Pollitt, Capital M’s executive chef, Rob Cunningham, and sous chef Phoebe Cleland, are Australian and bring to Capital M signature Australian dishes including M’s famous Pavlova. ![]() |
