The application process for up to 180 positions for the Australian Pavilion at next year’s Shanghai World Expo has opened.The Australian Government has formally launched its recruitment drive for a range of positions, including sommeliers, chefs and venue managers, to sales assistants and retail managers, finance managers, event coordinators and pavilion guides. Recruitment is open to candidates who demonstrate high levels of proficiency in Mandarin and English and have an understanding of Australia’s relations with China. "We are looking for enthusiastic Australians who are passionate about what they do, have a sense of humour and who are committed to making this event a success for Australia, Shanghai and the world,” said Peter Tesch, Commissioner-General for the Australian Pavilion. "We know from our experience at the 2005 Aichi World Expo that our people are critical to our success. These on-the-ground representatives are critical to the smooth running of the pavilion and to ensuring that our visitors enjoy a memorable and distinctly Australian experience,” he said. Australia is one of 192 nations participating in the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. Seven million people are expected to visit the Australian pavilion over the six month period between May and October 2010. The Australian pavilion will house exhibitions, targeted business events and a cultural program, as well as retail, food and beverage shops. International Venue Group is managing the pavilion’s staffing, retail and operations. Applications close September 18.
