INTRODUCTION

The event will be the biggest World Expo in the history of world expositions.
This presents opportunities for companies to become involved as potential suppliers to the pavilion.
This document outlines the Australian pavilion and the areas requiring supply.
OVERVIEW OF THE AUSTRALIAN PAVILION AT WORLD EXPO 2010
Australia's pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo will address the expo's ‘Better City, Better Life' theme by highlighting Australia's strong and vibrant economy; our commitment to sustainable development; our technological expertise and innovation; our world-class research facilities and education system and our rich and diverse culture. It will also promote Australian cities, which are consistently ranked as among the most liveable in the world, as great places in which to study, live and work.
Based on previous expo experience, the pavilion is expected to attract some seven million visitors, predominantly from China, over the six months of Expo.
SUPPLY TO THE AUSTRALIAN PAVILION
When representing Australia at the expo, the organisers wish to offer as many items representative of Australia as possible to visitors to the pavilion and customers at the retail areas.
The pavilion is currently seeking expressions of interest to supply the pavilion in the following areas:
1. Operational equipment and furniture; 2. VIP functions; 3. Food; 4. Beverage; and 5. Retail products.
OUTLINE OF PAVILION AREAS AND SUPPLY REQUIRED
The pavilion will source a wide range of supplies and these have been summarised below. The list is not intended to be exhaustive but to give an indication of the general needs of the pavilion.
VIP FUNCTIONS AREA
The VIP Functions area will occupy the upper levels of the pavilion with 250 hosted events over the course of expo catering to more than 10,000 guests.
RETAIL AREAS
World Expo 2010 presents an opportunity for Australian suppliers to sell their goods at the Australian pavilion. With an estimated forecast attendance of seven million visitors to the Australian pavilion, this represents approximately 38,000 people per day. The pavilion retail areas will also attract media attention due to the unique quality goods to be offered to customers, of which 90% are expected to be from China.
As at World Expo 2005, all visitors to the pavilion will exit the pavilion past the retail areas. In addition, approximately 15% of the 3.6 million visitors to the Australian pavilion came specifically for the retail areas via direct access – numbers are expected to be greater in 2010.
The Gift Store
The Gift Store aims to contribute to the pavilion experience by offering a specifically selected range of goods appealing to the Chinese market and provide a uniquely Australian memory of their visit to the pavilion. The expected categories of goods to be sold are gifts, personal items, clothing, packaged food and health products.
