Job Description

The Australian Embassy in Beijing seeks a Cultural Relations Project Officer to manage the program for the Year of Australia (YoA) in China which takes place from June 2010 - June 2011. The position reports to the Counsellor (Public Affairs and Culture). Travel within China will be required. Main duties will include:

• Activities associated with the preparatory phase, including liaison with cultural venues and program participants; regular briefing of Australian diplomatic missions within China; liaison with the YoA Steering Group in Canberra and Australia-based stakeholders; liaison with organisers of Australia's cultural program at Shanghai Expo on joint projects
• Assistance with project delivery, including tour arrangements; coordination of licenses and permissions; liaison with local authorities and travel to project locations for implementation; event management (guest lists, catering, etc)
• Assistance with development of sponsorship arrangements and managing sponsor relations, contract management
• Marketing, including coordination of materials
• Some budget and website management duties

Selection Criteria will be posted on the Embassy website from 8 October. Key attributes will include relevant experience in managing complex cultural projects, excellent organisational, communication and negotiation skills, and a high level of fluency in Mandarin Chinese. An understanding of Australian culture is desirable.
