Having watched the extraordinary drama of the Beijing Olympics finally unfold after years of anticipation, the focus relentlessly now shifts to "What's next?" As Stephen White, AustCham Shanghai Chair reports.All of us across China, some with frenzied interest, have watched closely throughout the brief weeks of the Olympics and Para- Olympics. A warm message of support for the endeavours of the Olympic teams was sent from AustCham Shanghai to our athletes, who carried the flag for all Australians and Australian interests as they strove for "personal best". Post-Olympics, major development and flow-on business outcomes are anticipated. THE HEART OF MATTERS Winter arrives soon in the earthquake ravaged areas which were quickly helped by AustCham Shanghai. Dujiangyan, near the epicenter Wenchuan, is a Shanghai sister city. AustCham Shanghai specific relief projects based on this local relationship are effectively developed direct to point of need and managed in our preferred way. This has been consolidated through negotiation and strong relationship building with relevant government authorities, based on the respect for AustCham Shanghai's community outreach over many years. BUSINESS AS USUALThe business events calendar is full - an AXA presentation, a BlueScope Steel site visit, Industry Working Groups on track, this year's Australia China Business Awards now open and accepting nominations, and more programs to boost post-Olympic recovery. Meanwhile our regular Aussie Kiwi BBQ continues to be a sell out networking success with hundreds attending. SHANGHAI WORLD EXPO 2010 Expo differs significantly from the Olympics in scale and modus operandi. Similarly, national showcasing is a large part of what it is all about.

The annual report delivered a year of achieved milestones backed by the greatly valued support of membership and an excellent year's work in Secretariat. Challenges ahead were outlined as Australia-China business faces broad economic and environmental constraints, increasing costs of operation and increased demands, pressure and expectations.
