Carl Jetter - Profile

Prior to his recent re-election as councillor to the City of Melbourne, Carl Jetter's main business focus for the past 20 years has been the development of business associations and the publishing of related business magazines.

In March 2005 he became owner of Australia China Connections, a bi-monthly business magazine, focusing on the ever growing Australa/China business environment. China Connections e-business website has become the extension of this growing media group in Australia and China.

He joined the Victorian board of the Australia China Business Council in 2006 and is consulting Australian firms, who are considering doing business in China or expanding their existing operation there.

In his position as patron to the 163 Club he enjoys the opportunity to assist the many Chinese business migration families , who are now settling in Australia.

Previously his company Management.Com P/L has been servicing business associations, concentrating primarily on the marketing of membership and the development of membership benefits.

Late 2002 he was invited to join the business development unit of the Australian Industry Group, to assist with the expanding and marketing of their membership structure. He resigned from that position due to his election to the City council.
That position enabled him to discuss and advice SME companies within all industries in respect to their challenges and needs to survive and prosper.

Prior to that Carl Jetter was engaged by the Australian Retailers Association Victoria for five years, responsible for the marketing and membership division.
During that time he was able to increase their membership from 2,500 to 4,000, and introduced their associate membership.
He initiated and published a supplier's directory for retailers and had responsibility for their monthly magazine.

From 1994 to 1997 Carl experienced the extreme challenges of being the proprietor of a city restaurant. During his period as restaurateur he established and ran ‘Granny's Place Restaurant', which became Melbourne's first authentic Australiana restaurant.

Whilst running the city restaurant, Carl was also assisting with the management of the Melbourne City Business Network centre, Melbourne's largest incubator centre for people aiming to learn about owning and establishing their own business.

Prior to his restaurant days Carl Jetter spent 10 years building the Victorian Restaurant and Catering Association. Responsible for marketing and membership, and as an active committee member, he was influential in the association's growth from 200 to 1,000 members.

During that time Carl Jetter also launched and published a national trade magazine "Inside Dining" for the hospitality industry, which he sold after twelve years to Yaffa Publishing..
"Inside Dining" was a monthly magazine with a CAB audited national circulation of 14,000 copies.

In 1995 Carl was invited to assist with the establishing of the West End Precinct Association, a City of Melbourne precinct program initiative.
A year later Carl took over as President and since then has been instrumental in building the West End Business Association into one of Melbourne's more popular and influential business associations.

In his position as President and CEO of the West End Business Association Carl also served as Deputy Chair on the Melbourne Day Committee, and was involved in many Melbourne City initiatives.
